Creating

“…these days I write like putting doors on a car, or solving a geometry problem–like there’s only one answer, and i keep fiddling to find it. It’s not talent that I feel when I get it right; it’s goodness. Like I’ve buttoned down one small pocket of the world and what I put inside is safe now.”Lisa Carver

“Post”-pandemic I’ve been feeling more and more like turning off more social media stimuli and pouring myself into creating stories that as true to me as I can. Most days it feels good. Hanging out with fellow creatives–illustrators and writers alike–who I enjoy and make the days and the work worthwhile. Watching my kids grow. Soaking up that first sip of coffee. Hitting the lake on a paddle board. Exercising.

This quote is still the most true I’ve found for why I spend so much energy writing. And I’m more convinced than ever that craft is creating something, but art is “buttoning down” my truth as clear and concise and perfectly as I can.
